Monster Unlucky 2 - Bobert and the Monster Webcomic

To Do: Overcoming Tech Troubles A Week in My Creative Business Life

The week kicked off with a series of unexpected technical issues. My phone began to fail, shutting off after only a minute of use. Simultaneously, a malfunctioning video card on my laptop made it so I couldn't do any video editing. But I got a new phone and fixed my video card issue. So this week I go over what tasks I completed from last week and take a look at the tasks I have to do for my online creative ventures this week.

Navigating the multiple tasks I have for my creative ventures this week. I go through what needs to be done for my vintage reselling business, webcomics, and my band, Lorenzo's Music. In this video vlog, I begin by reviewing what I accomplished from my tasks last week and then setting my goals for this week. I'm going to mark them as I go along.

To Do: Multitasking My Business, Music, and Comics

Sometimes balancing my multiple projects can often feel like an overwhelming task. I sit and think out loud about the tasks I need to juggle this week from my vintage reselling business, my band, and my webcomic series. In this video vlog, I begin the week by prioritizing tasks and setting goals. I'm going to mark them as I go along. ✅ = Done ⏲ = Still waiting Vintage reselling business - The Pop Culture Roadshow With a vintage reselling business to run, the first order of business is to pack orders from weekend sales on platforms like eBay and Mercari.  As I pack these items I need to record a 'What Sold' video for my Pop Culture roadshow YouTube channel , turning the task into video content. ✅ Pack orders ✅ List new items I got from estate sales (See my latest eBay store listings here ) ⛔ Create a new "What sold" video for my YouTube page (Recorded not edited - Laptop upgrade issues) Band - Lorenzo's Music I've also got a new song out this month so I nee...

How much do I charge for my webcomic books?

Q: How much do you charge? When I made my first webcomic book, " Then This Happened... A diary bout breast cancer ", it was a much larger size. It's because I first started drawing it in larger page formats, and it has over 350 pages. Because of that, the first paperback book is actually $14.

Is it cost-effective to print a paperback webcomic book?

Is it cost-effective to print the paperback?  Yes... It's cost-effective mostly because all I have to do is upload the book to Kindle Direct Publishing and it takes care of the rest like the printing and shipping.

What dimensions, pixel count, etc. Do I use for my webcomics?

What dimensions, pixel count, et cetera, are best for print? It depends on which webcomic project I'm drawing.

Where do I get the inspiration for my webcomics?

Where do I get my inspiration? For my webcomic diary " Then This Happened... " I've been drawing that for six years. That comic is my real life. All of those are real. Most people get that I'm really writing about myself when they read those.

Drawing and thinking.

I constantly have one project in my head while working on another.

How many comics do I draw in a week, a year?

Sometimes I'm asked, how many drawings do I make in a week or a year? So at first, I was drawing my webcomic diary every day. No excuses. That was what I set out to do. That was my entire plan, to document my life for a year. And I did that for about two years. But then finally, I decided that I didn't need to do as much. I didn't need to do that many. I had done it, I achieved it, and I was able to create a book out of it. I realized that even if I only did, like, three comics a week, that was still over 150 comics for an entire year. And that's still quite a lot.  So I allowed myself some breathing room. Now I didn't have to come up with something every single night. Watch this clip Read My Webcomic ebooks! What hit me in the head?

I do a live music and talk stream with my band called " Lorenzo's Music The Live & Unfiltered Show " on our YouTube channel. This is a clip from the show, after one of the songs our bass player Cliff Says "What the hell hit me in the head?" Turns out one of the metal rods on the brushes Rob our drummer uses flew off and nailed Cliff in the head while he was playing. 🤣

Revisiting My Webcomics Journey

In 2017, I decided to give comics another shot. I started looking online to see what kinds of webcomics were out there today. That’s when I discovered Webtoons and Tapas , two platforms dedicated to people sharing their own webcomics. I’ve always loved comic strips and old dime-store comics. Growing up, I wanted to create something like Garfield —simple stories about everyday life and the funny things that happen. My biggest challenge was always writing. I found out about the comic series American Elf by James Kochalka , an indie comic artist who created daily diary comics. Each day, he drew a comic strip about his life.  This approach seemed perfect for me! Every day, I’d come home and tell my wife about some silly, funny, or weird thing that happened at work. I thought, “Why not turn these stories into comics?” I could use myself as the main character and just write and draw one strip a day. It seemed like a solid plan! I planned to use my sketchbook as a diary, creating one fo...

Building a Creator Community Through Live Interaction

The video above is a repurposed edit of an Instagram livestream I made for our YouTube channel. I released a new remix album with my band, Lorenzo's Music, and wanted to promote it while highlighting the artists involved. I decided to feature a song each week on social accounts and YouTube and conduct Instagram Live interviews with the remixers on Mondays. The interviews allow me to learn about remixing techniques and songwriting, and the videos can be repurposed as reels, YouTube content, and podcast episodes. This promotional strategy is helping me build an audience for the album and make connections with other musicians. I recently released a new album with my band Lorenzo's Music called " Lorenzo's Remixes, Volume 1. " It's a compilation of some of our songs remixed by us and other talented artists I met on our music podcast . This is our first full album release in a while – for the past year, we've been dropping singles one by one. While we love tha...
