Using Google Photos and Google Docs To Make My Webcomic Book

I came up with a way to use Google docs and Google photos to make my webcomic books So whenever I draw my webcomics , the drawing program I use on my tablet saves them in a folder. I have Google Photos set up to back that folder up online.  At first, I just wanted to have them backed up there so I could have that "year ago today thing" where it would just show me my own comic from the past year in the app.  You know, so I could go, "oh I remember that happened this day". That was the original reason that I did this. Backing them up in Google Photos was a happy accident later on In my first book, I just used Google docs to put it together. I downloaded the book template from Amazon KDP and uploaded it to Google docs so it would have the right format. Then I just needed to add the comics. I added webcomics the hard way in the first book When I did the first book I thought this was genius! I figured out google docs lets me add images by URL and I had been posting t

Making a Webcomic Book on Amazon Part 3 - Tom Ray's Art Podcast

This is the last in a 3 part series I've been doing about  publishing my webcomics as print-on-demand books on Amazon. I thought I would share this on the art podcast as I'm doing the setup for my fourth book this year . In the previous episode , I shared how my webcomic transformed from something I was just posting on my website, to a thing that I could find multiple uses for at once. In this episode, I go over the actual publishing process using Amazon KDP to make the book and what the royalties are after Amazon takes out the printing cost from the sale price of the book. How do I draw my webcomic?

How I set up to draw my webcomic each day When I draw my webcomic I think back on the day.  I think about:  what's something that happened? What's something that I can make note of? Somedays there'll be something that happens where I know for sure what I'm going to draw. It's like, Yes! That's what I'm drawing about today. Other days I'll have to think back on the day and go:  what's a little thing or thought that I had? Something just odd that I looked at?  Maybe an email I received Things like that. I'll start picturing it in my head Usually, I'll start this thought process while I'm making dinner.  I'll just think about the comic while I'm cooking. Layout what I'm going to draw for each panel in my head. When I'm done eating that's when I draw the comic. I'll sit down and start drawing the idea I came up with and see if it works. Part of the process for me is learning how to tell a story in four panels. Telling

Making a Webcomic Book on Amazon Part 2 - Tom Ray's Art Podcast

I recently made a series of videos about publishing my webcomics as print-on-demand books on Amazon. I thought I would share this on the art podcast as I'm doing the setup for my fourth book this year . I gave some background about how I started my webcomic in the last episode of the podcast .  This time I share how my webcomic transformed from something I was just posting on my website, to a thing that I could find multiple uses for at once. Where do I get the inspiration for my webcomics?

I've been asked where I get the inspiration for my webcomics. It really is inspired by what happened to me that day. That's why I call the series " Then this happened... "  The concept really is kind of like that - today this happened and then I draw the thing, and then the next day this happened. It first started out being a cathartic thing there was a year that we were going through a really rough time. Then This Happened Book 1 is available on Amazon Then the second year is when we had gotten through that time and how our lives had changed. Then This Happened Book 2 is available on Amazon By that second year, I had started the podcast , I was doing more with my website, and I was doing public events. So it was kind of like growing from this really rough time to how our lives had changed. I always forget to take pictures And also, the main reason that I started this webcomic is that I had just started using Instagram and one thing I realized is something would happ

Do I really draw a webcomic every day? How I make my webcomic books

One of the questions that I've been asked is do I draw my webcomic every day? Do I really make one comic every day throughout the year? These days the answer is... kinda. When I first started drawing it in 2017 , yes I did. Back then I drew it every day and that was because it was more cathartic. It actually turned out to be something that helped me get through a rough time. The first book I put together of those comics was really about an emotional time in my life and it was more of a diary. At that time I didn't have a podcast , I just started this website and posted my webcomics .  This was a way for me to draw every day. My comics were not in the style they are now. In the beginning, it was a little bit more serious-looking, which made sense given my mood at the time.  I drew the first comic on the day my wife told me she had breast cancer. My stupid desk. But drawing that way just seemed like too much for me to try and do every day. Then I tried to dumb it down so I could

Making a Webcomic Book on Amazon Part 1 - Tom Ray's Art Podcast

I recently made a series of videos about publishing my webcomics as print-on-demand books on Amazon. I thought I would share this on the art podcast as I'm doing the setup for  my fourth book this year . I've been doing my webcomics since 2017 and every year I put together a collected version of them into a book. I hope that this helps anyone who has been thinking of making a book out of their own artwork or will benefit anyone that may have been thinking about transforming their own artwork into a book. Sleep! Hypnosis comic book ad drawing

I've been drawing old comic book novelty ads lately . This is one for hypnosis.  I gave it one of my favorite lines from MST3K scenes where a person is being hypnotized and Tom Servo shouts "SLEEP!" Here are some examples of that for fun. I also have it available as a T-Shirt in my store đź‘• Sleep! Hypnosis comic book ad T-Shirt
