Waiting by the train.

I've always been amazed at the stuff they leave sitting out overnight.

Trip up north to find vintage and retro goods to sell - Tom Ray's Day 200731

Tom Ray on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/tmray Took a trip up north to an estate sale that had a bunch of vintage and retro pop-culture items for sale. See what I get when I spend around $200 for things I can resell online to support what I do! Plus at the end of the video, I draw my daily autobiographical webcomic . More vintage pop-culture items available in my eBay Store https://ebay.to/2vMYStC This is a video of my daily life since I decided to sell collectibles and pop-culture items I collect on eBay to help support my art career instead of starting a Patreon or taking on freelance work.  Music in this video by my band Lorenzo's Music on Spotify - https://spoti.fi/2JJF39Q

Extra five.

I didn't want them to have to drive all the way back to get it.

Firetruck.

At first I thought I should stop to help but then realized that the actual response team was there. So I didn't feel so bad.

Running my own business isn't all Unicorn farts and rainbows - Tom Ray's Day 200729

Tom Ray on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/tmray Here is a story about a problem I had recently with an order that got lost in the mail and how I tried to solve it. Running my own business online and shipping out pop-culture and retro things from eBay, Mercari and Facebook Marketplace can hit a snag from time to time. Sometimes I just have to call around and do a little detective work. More vintage pop-culture items available in my eBay Store https://ebay.to/2vMYStC This is a video of my daily life since I decided to sell collectibles and pop-culture items I collect on eBay to help support my art career instead of starting a Patreon or taking on freelance work.

Balcony.

Oh right. We're on the top floor so it's like a wind tunnel up there.

Blueprints.

No electricity yet but it's something.

Vocal ideas.

Up until that point I really liked how it was going. It kinda blocked the whole thing. I'll figure something out.

What kind of weird stuff did I sell on eBay today you ask? - Tom Ray's Day 200725

What kind of weird stuff did I sell on eBay today you ask? Well, let me show you!  Check out my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/tmray I like to go through some of the pop-culture retro things I collect from the '50s through the 90's I sold on eBay before I ship them off so I can take one last look at the things. This time I got an old blooper book from TV and Radio, a wooden tow truck from the 30s believe it or not and some toys and other stuff. I dunno I enjoy them :) Plus at the end of the video, I draw my daily autobiographical webcomic. Another look at my daily life since I decided to sell collectibles and pop-culture items I collect on eBay to help support my art career instead of starting a Patreon or taking on freelance work. Old photos.

Sometimes when I find these things I collect out in the world I even wonder if they were actually the same ones I owned.

Still waiting.

They had told us August but we'll see.

Stopped by my train car to rearrange some things - Tom Ray's Day 200723

My YouTube Channel  https://www.youtube.com/tmray More vintage pop-culture items available in my eBay Store https://ebay.to/2vMYStC I start out the day looking at what pop-culture and retro items I sold on eBay. Later in the day on my train car, we start to move things around and make a game plan for how I'm going to set up my business there. Plus at the end of the video, I draw my daily autobiographical webcomic. Wall of voodoo.

I suppose there could be worse songs.

Gnats.

And then a bunch flew inside when I went back in so I was chasing those all over the place.

Shipping day.

They always get back to me pretty soon afterward.

How I'm updating my email set up after renaming my business - Tom Ray's Day 200720

At the beginning of 2020 when I decided to go into business for myself I figured it was time to rename the whole thing to kind of make myself start from scratch and see what it would take. I used to be a web developer so it was kind of just a fun challenge for me to update everything I had online. One of the challenges that I had was not only switching my email to the new domain I use but also making it so that all of the previous connections that I had also went to this new email. Watch the video as I kind of talk out how I'm going to do this. Plus at the end of the video, I draw my daily autobiographical webcomic. Bag sale.

The place had actually been cleared out already so it wasn't as good as the other day .

Sold some stuff and then my new Linux laptop arrived! - Tom Ray's Day 200719

I was going through some of the Pop-Culture items I sold when my new Linux laptop arrived from System 76 . So I spent the rest of the day messing around with that. Another look at my daily life since I decided to sell collectibles and pop-culture items I collect on eBay to help support my art career instead of starting a Patreon or taking on freelance work. Chromies.

I always seem to remember the most random things when we drive through my old neighborhood.

Up north drive.

With the way things have been in the world, it just hasn't really felt like summer to me yet. Even though it's already the middle of July.

Fenced in.

It was strange to stand and talk on the street but couldn't think of where else to go on short notice.

Status update on my train car studio - Tom Ray's Day 200716

Now that I'm able to get back into my train car that I'm turning into an art & recording studio after construction started last year, I wanted to see how the progress to get it set up was going. We just recently discovered it was back on its tracks here - https://youtu.be/j1ibhtfK6BI Check out my Tom Ray's Art Podcast interview with Lindsay Kovnat https://youtu.be/nKII6mdU-p0 More videos on my YouTube channel -  https://www.youtube.com/tmray

Shoes.

There's like 85 different graphic tees but just 3 kinds of shoes. Also, I was gonna write tennis shoes in the comic which sounds correct when I say it. But written out it looked strange. I was on the fence about sneakers.

Scheduling job interviews.

While setting these up I realized I should start scheduling some interviews for the podcast too.

Looking through a box of vintage books I got from an auction for 8 bucks! - Tom Ray's Day 200714

Another look at my daily life since I decided to sell collectibles and pop-culture items I collect on eBay to help support my art career instead of starting a Patreon or taking on freelance work. I got two boxes of vintage books from an online auction for 8 bucks and I wasn't even sure what I got. But I know some of these will sell pretty quick in my eBay store. Then I also draw my daily webcomic. More vintage pop-culture items available in my eBay Store https://ebay.to/2vMYStC But first I start by playing a Walter Payton Flexi-disc that I found from the 80s of a promotional song he recorded for Kentucky fried chicken . And it's as amazing as you would think. More videos on my YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/tmray

Charged again.

I'm sure I'll get it sorted out. I just don't want to have to sit through the hold music song for 20 minutes again .

A good interruption.

Normally we would have been out there working on stuff together. Guess he was hoping I was still keeping that up too.

Got a box of vintage books for $10 that will make 10x that amount! - Tom Ray's Day 200712

After looking at some of the pop-culture items I sold today I get a box of vintage illustrated books for $10 and discover it's filled with some total gems! Then I draw about it in my daily webcomic. Vibe.

The odd thing is I find myself just kind looking at it like "Huh, what's going on there?"

VMware set up for the band.

We've actually made tons of progress for working remotely using Ubuntu studio and GitHub . But the set up does take time.

My train car studio is back on it's tracks again! - Tom Ray's Day 200707

It's been almost a year since I've been able to get into the train car I am turning into an art and recording studio. Walking by it today I noticed some significant progress! Band interview.

I'm pretty sure I got the questions right at least.

Country roads.

I even ended up on two dead-end roads I had never been on before.

A look at some of the weird vintage things I sold online today - Tom Ray's Day 200705

It's amazing to find things that I just think are neat and post them online to see if they sell. An old handheld game or a bake-it glass owl ornament from the 70s to name a few. I do all this to help support my art career online instead of starting a Patreon or taking on freelance work. I also show you my daily webcomic. Hope there's not a nest.

Deep down, I knew the wasps would be back .

Overseas shipping part 2.

I was eventually able to explain the situation and they are going to look into it. So it's closer to getting figured out at least.

What's in this box of vintage goodies I got from an online auction? - Tom Ray's Day 200403

I've been looking for more places to find vintage and pop-culture items to sell so I can support my art career. So I bid on this box from an online auction. I take a look at what's inside. Overseas shipping.

I felt bad for the person in the call center. They really seemed like this was very confusing to them.

Still looking for interns.

Just the chorus part though. I don't think I even know the whole song.

Vintage Illustration Artwork from Calling All Girls Digest from 1962

Here is some illustration artwork from a vintage magazine digest I found from 1962 called " Calling all girls ". This was a magazine that was for teens that later became Young Miss magazine. It has a lot of really cool two-color illustrations for each of the articles in the digest. If you would like to see more of the books that I've collected from resale shops over the years I also sell them in my eBay store . Each issue also had a minicomic called Tizzie by  Kate Osann . Tizzy, the title character, was a stereotypical teen-aged American girl. The episode drawn in this comic was Tizzie and her first job as a babysitter. And much like the rest of the book it used a two-color theme. I actually like to try and recreate old ads like this and repurpose the artwork by illustrating them for band flyers.  If you would like to see more of the books that I've collected from resale shops over the years I also sell them in my eBay store .
