Making cartoon word balloons in Medibang Paint with the circle guide tool

There is a circular guide tool in the Medibang Paint comic drawing app . And I use this to draw my word balloons.

Using the medibang paint lasso tool to resize part of my comic artwork

I can resize part of a drawing in Medibang Paint but figuring this out in the app took me a while to figure out. So I wanted to share how to do that using the lasso tool.

Using the comic panel tool in Medibang Paint

So let's get into the very first and probably most important reason to use Medibang Paint , which is the comic panel creation tool.

A Beginner's Guide to Medibang Paint For Webcomics

I've been creating webcomics with Medibang Paint on my Android tablet for years.  I decided to make a new video for people who have not used Medibang to show why I use it and go over some of the tools that the program has that really help my creative process.

Testing Out My Instagram Live Drawing Setup

Watch the Instagram Live here A few years ago I found a PHP hack that allowed me to broadcast my laptop and my drawing tablet to Instagram Live. At the time Instagram only allowed people to broadcast from their phone camera.

Full-color funnies, working on my retro/dime store comic style project

For the past few months, I've been working on creating a comic book series for Amazon. It is a huge departure from my usual webcomic diary . This comic is in color and is totally fictional.

Revisiting My Webcomics Journey

In 2017, I decided to give comics another shot. I started looking online to see what kinds of webcomics were out there today. That’s when I discovered Webtoons and Tapas , two platforms dedicated to people sharing their own webcomics. I’ve always loved comic strips and old dime-store comics. Growing up, I wanted to create something like Garfield —simple stories about everyday life and the funny things that happen. My biggest challenge was always writing. I found out about the comic series American Elf by James Kochalka , an indie comic artist who created daily diary comics. Each day, he drew a comic strip about his life.  This approach seemed perfect for me! Every day, I’d come home and tell my wife about some silly, funny, or weird thing that happened at work. I thought, “Why not turn these stories into comics?” I could use myself as the main character and just write and draw one strip a day. It seemed like a solid plan! I planned to use my sketchbook as a diary, creating one fo...

Tuning the canvas - Live Streaming My Comic Drawing Process

Hey everyone! I've been working on my livestream setup for drawing my comics. I've been wanting to do this for a while now, and I'm finally getting around to it. I'm hoping to start streaming weekly, or maybe even more than that eventually. I'm still kind of getting used to the podium setup I have, but I'm really excited to start talking and drawing on these live videos. I think it will be a great way to share how I create my comics. In the video below, you can see me testing out the podium setup and drawing some of my characters. I'm still working on getting everything dialed in, but I'm happy with how it's coming along. I'm really looking forward to starting this new webcomic series and sharing it with you all. I hope you'll join me on my livestreams and follow along as I create my comics. Thanks for reading! A quick peek behind-the-scenes of a new webcomic series. Coming soon!

I've recently paused my usual diary comic to dedicate my attention to an exciting new project—a fiction webcomic series featuring two characters that may be familiar to my long-time followers.  These characters, Bobert and the Monster have made appearances on my website before , and now they're taking center stage.  I'm working diligently with the hope of launching the series shortly.  In the meantime, I'd like to share this behind-the-scenes video of the drawing process for one of the upcoming pages.  Stay tuned for more updates as I bring this creative vision to life.

They're implanting thoughts in your mind man!

While drawing my webcomic on a live stream I was listening to an episode of the old-time radio show "Suspense" from the 60's. Suddenly the announcer did this PSA I was not expecting. 😅

Drawing a Halloween webcomic while listening to old-time radio horror stories

Having some fun in this short clip from the drawing session.

Drawing a comic panel for a book and updated video stream set up

I have a new comic book idea and thought I would talk about it while I draw a panel of the story. I got a new lapel mic and I also found a way to hook up my drawing tablet to use it in a live stream. So I wanted to try both of these things out.

Travel coffee - A silly Horsey Headface comic

There is a character I was messing around with a while back that I called "Horsey Headface" . How it started I was originally messing around with this as an idea for a children's book character. I drew it as a kid dressed in a cowboy getup in the vector program Inkscape in an old '60s children's book style. But then I decided to give it a horsehead. Horsey Headface Children's book idea But truthfully, by the time I was done, I didn't really do anything with it and felt like drawing it all out in a vector program took too long. Drawing it more cartoon-like I felt like trying to make the character goofier. So I was trying different cartoon-like styles. I drew this version of Horsey Headface tap dancing on the  Google Keep app  on my phone. Horsey Headface sketch from my phone I kinda felt like I would enjoy drawing the character this way a little more. Also, it wouldn't take me as long to do. I thought maybe I could even animate it so I drew a version o...

When you find a drawing you don't remember doing

I don't remember drawing this picture A Google Photos drawing surprise I set up all the drawing apps I use on my phone and tablet to automatically back up what I create to  Google Photos .  The main reason is to save it of course. But the other reason I back up my drawings to Google Photos is that it has a memory feature . I get an alert each day where it tells me I have photo memories that I can look at.

Bear. Green, brown, yellow.

Just messing with color shapes on my tablet drawing software. Ended up drawing a bear as Robin hood laughing and pointing. You can check out more of my doodles here .

How long does it take to draw my webcomic?

I sit down and show how I draw my webcomic in this video In the video, I show the process of how I draw my webcomic diary using the Medibang Paint app on my drawing tablet and talk about my process. How long does it take me to draw my webcomic? The whole process to draw my webcomics is meant to keep with the diary-style I like to convey. So I draw it all freehand to keep it loose just like writing ideas and thoughts down in a diary or journal. I try not to spend more than 15 minutes drawing the comic, sometimes maybe 20 but I always try to keep it short. I actually found that if I spent a lot of time making it perfect and detailed it doesn't seem like an authentic story that actually happened to me. So how do I begin the process of drawing my webcomic? How do I start my webcomic drawings? Every day I kind of have an idea of something that happened today in my head that I want to draw about. As I open my drawing app on my tablet I'm still thinking about the idea I have for th...

The bird and the worm

I was doing that thing we all do. I opened a drawing app on my tablet and felt like drawing something.  I didn't know what to draw so I just picked a color and a brush and drew a shape. Then tried to not draw something I normally do. After about 20 min I apparently decided that thing was a bird wearing a baseball cap walking with a worm who turns out to be his friend? I don't even know. I enjoyed doing the background though.
